Injury Prevention


The Sparks Volleyball Club firmly believes in training our young athletes correctly. For these reasons we have contracted with The Center for Athletic Performance to assist in specialized training designed for volleyball. We provide the opportunity for our athletes to attend one group and one individual session per week throughout the season. This training is intended to assist in building strength to improve volleyball skills, but more importantly to strengthen the body in the interest of minimizing the risk of injury.


Chris McGovern, CSCS, CPT, Director of Sports Performance – Arrowhead

Chris is one of the strength & conditioning trainers and the head of our nutritional program at our North Scottsdale Facility. Chris, a native to New Mexico, graduated the University of Arizona with a degree in Nutritional Science. Chris is nationally certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) and also a certified trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In college Chris was a decathlete for the Men’s Track and Field program at the University of Arizona, and is well versed in the training of collegiate and professional level athletes as well as youth. In his free time, Chris enjoys going for runs with his dog, lifting, and working with athletes willing to go the extra mile.
